walking routes

Throughout Algarve several hundred kilometers of signposted walking routes are available for those who enjoy self guided walking. Long distance walkers may choose GR23 in the council of Tavira (45 km, circular) or GR13, the famous Via Algarviana in between Alcoutim and Cape St. Vincent (300 km). Using a similar set of signs for signposting, local authorities and regional organisations for sustainable development have been producing many smaller trails resulting in a vast network of circular 'PR' routes from 5 to 20 kilometers each. Most of these are acknowledged by the Portuguese Camping and Mountaineering Federation and show pedestrians Algarve's enormous diversity from coastal areas to the mountain ranges. Below you find a selection.
