Transalgibre mtb break Loulé, Algarve

Five nights and four days of wonderful mountainbiking in and around Loulé, the central part of the Algarve.

This short mtb holiday will be closed by participating in the Transalgibre, a classic mountainbike event for all Algarvean riders. Ribeira de Algibre is the name for the river that the route of the ride is following from its source at Fonte Filipa, near Loulé downstream to end up in the Atlantic Ocean at Vilamoura, some 60 kms further. Traditionally this ride is organised the 10th of June which is the national holiday to celebrate the Portuguese republics anniversary, also called Dia de Camões, referring to the countries greatest national poet.  

Riding along the meandering banks of the Algibre river is a true mtb party itself. It is probably due to this precious valley's singletracks that mountainbiking in the Algarve gained so much popularity amongst residents as well it continues to surprise visiting bikers. Reason enough for the local mtb club of Loulé to organise this classic every year and thereby paying a tribute to Prof. Arménio Fernandes. This local teacher is considered the man to have sparkled the local intrest in mountainbiking by designing, mapping and signposting many excellent mtb routes in the council of Loulé.

Reason enough for us to take you out and show you more of the mtb goodies that the central Algarve in general and Loulé area in particular have to offer for keen bikers. We can take you out over the weekend on 3 guided tours. The tours we can do on two different levels of physical and technical difficulty for all participants to enjoy themselves. We aim to combine cross country riding on a moderate level with an introduction to the area's best natural scenery.  

The town of Loulé is the lively heart of the rural hilly surroundings and an interesting base to spend a pleasant time, also when not on the bike. Your comfortable hotel is situated right in the centre close to the emblematic market building, castle walls  and many small winding cobbled streets with a good collection of charming local bars and restaurants.

PROGRAMME

• Day 1: Friday 6th June
• Arrival at Faro airport and transfer to your hotel in Loulé
• Day 2: Saturday 7th June
• 09.30 hrs: Bike delivery and fitting at the hotel
• 10.00 hrs: Guided tour of 40 or 60 kms towards the Ria Formosa Natural Park
• Day 3: Sunday 8th June
• 10.00 hrs: Guided tour of 40 or 70 kms through the hill of the interior near Alte
• Day 4: Monday 9th of June
• 09.00 Transfer to Alcantarilha
• 10.00 hrs: Guided tour of 40 or 70 kms towards Silves, Arade valley and coastal area
• Day 5: Tuesday 10th of June
• 09.00 hrs: Transalgibre, 60 kms
• 14.00 hrs: Lunch in Vilamoura
• 16.00 hrs: Cycling or transfer back to Loulé
• Day 6: Wednesday 11th of June
• Departure and transfer back to Faro airport

• 240 euro for non-riding partner
